Meet Michelle

After over 14 years in the New York City fashion industry, Michelle Fiallo-Lasser redirected her focus to her other passion: interior design. She continued her studies at the New York School of Interior Design and went on to work with legendary names such as Bunny Williams and the Rockwell Group. Her projects—spanning both domestic and international settings—have ranged from the very traditional to the ultra-modern, cultivating her deep appreciation for detail, texture, and the seamless blend of old and new. With over 30 years of design experience in New York’s fashion and interior design industries, Michelle eventually launched her own interior design firm.

A native New Yorker, Michelle’s love for art and design has been a lifelong passion. A pivotal moment came during a childhood trip to the Dominican Republic, where, at just nine years old, she visited the home of her relative, the renowned fashion designer, Oscar de la Renta. This transformative experience sparked Michelle’s appreciation for all things beautiful and set her on the path to becoming an interior designer.

Michelle began her career in fashion after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), working closely with her mentor and teacher, Oscar de la Renta. Under his guidance, she developed an eye for beauty, not just in clothing and textiles but also in interiors, gardens, and travel.

Shortly after launching her own interior design firm, Michelle relocated with her family to the Washington, D.C. area. In 2020, when the pandemic altered the way we live and work, Michelle embraced the opportunity to raise her son while continuing to serve her clients remotely. Leveraging her expertise, she led design projects across California, Connecticut, and New York—all from a distance. This period taught her to reimagine how design services could be delivered, sparking an idea that would shape her next chapter.

Michelle realized that while many clients valued the expertise of high-end residential design, they often needed solutions that aligned with smaller budgets. Driven by her desire to make great design accessible, she founded Design Thread Studio. Through this platform, Michelle empowers professional women to create beautiful homes with confidence. Design Thread Studio helps clients embrace their innate sense of style—making professional design guidance accessible and stress-free..
